21/03 Back to Harajuku and Shibuya

On Thursday I didn't plan on doing anything, but I ended up going to Harajuku and Shibuya to do some more shopping. When I went to Harajuku on Tuesday with Tammy I really loved it, so I wanted to go back by myself and just stroll around for a bit. Harajuku truly has the craziest shops I've ever seen. Everything is so extra and I loved it.  I keep running in to these extremely cute animal cafés like a kitten café, puppy café and even an otter café! But I didn't go in because I don't want to support the use of animals for entertainment.  I walked to shibuya once it started getting dark outside to head to 1 more shop and get some dinner. Once again I didn't know what I wanted to eat but I ended up at panda express. (an American fastfood chain that serves Chinese food) I had an awesome meal and headed back home because tomorrow will be a really exiting day!!

20/03 Asakusa

Today I went to Asakusa, one of the oldest neigborhoods in Tokyo that is known for the iconic SensoJi Temple. (the oldes temple in Tokyo) It is an amazing neigborhood but also a very touristy one. The first thing I saw when I got out of the station was this Jinrikisha. This is one of those typical tourist attractions that locals would never take part in anymore but tourists love it.  I didn't need google maps to find the temple, the amount of tourists and shops led me to it. It was so so beautifull!  I walked around and just enjoyed the views and the peacefull vibe that was going on. Then I spotted a whole streetfood market on the side of the temple. I ofcourse got some food and it was amazing!  I had a grilled beef stick that had rice on the inside and was covered in bbq sauce. And I also tried my first daifuku!! (a mochi that is filled with a cream filling and a strawberry) This had been on my list to try for so long but I wanted the first one to be a really good ...

19/03 shopping and taco Tuesday

On Tuesday, one of my colleagues invited me to go shopping. Tammy is one of the teachers in grade 2, she's Australian and absolutely amazing. She asked me to go shopping with her so naturally I agreed. We met at 3p.m. in Harajuku, her favourite neigborhood in Tokyo. I had never heard of Harajuku before but now that I've been there it is easily one of my favourite neigborhoods in Tokyo too. We did some shopping in Takeshita street (Tammy told me most aussies call this 'take a shit street' 😂) and tried strawberry Tanghulu. (sugar coated strawberries) It was so good!  After, we went to get a coffee at this rooftop Starbucks with a lovely garden. One of Tammy's best friends Kieran came over. He is actually one of the teachers in grade 4. (nextdoor to where I am) We started walking again and ran in to a google advertisement where you could get pictures taken, so ofcourse Tammy and I went in for a little photoshoot.  Kieran loves a drink so we got some lemon sours from ...

17/03 and 18/03 meeting Hiro

On Sunday I slept in.  Although I want to see and explore as much things as possible during the break, I also want to be really carefull with my health and not get sick. Since a lot of the kids in our class have been sick and I cannot afford to get sick in the middle of my internship.  After chilling in bed for a bit I made lunch. It was a very sunny day and on days like this it's quite sad that I have no option to eat outside. So after lunch I went to 7/11 for coffee and sat at one of the nearby parks to drink it.    I needed some dry-shampoo and conditioner so I descided to go to Don Quijote. It's this crazy store branch they have here in Tokyo that truly had everything, from skincare to fresh meat and from cutlery to bikes. There is not a single thing that you won't be able to find at Don Quijote. I had already been to the huge one in Shibuya and the one in Ginza but I saw on google maps that I actually have a smaller one really close to my student dorm. So ...

16/03 Ikebukuro

I'm writing this blog on sunday because I got home really late yesterday and forgot to write it. Yesterday I went to Ikebukuro, the neighbourhood me and my grandma will be staying in once she gets here. I passed by the hotel to see how far it was from the station and in what area it was.  Because it was a really sunny 20°C day I decided to go there by bike. It was a really nice ride but also a really big pain in the ass to find a spot to park my bike at. In the more quiet neigbourhoods like Nerima there are loads of bike parkings, some are free and at some you pay money because there will be someone keeping an eye on the bikes. But in the bigger neigbourhoods not many people ride their bikes, therefore there are barely any bike parkings. After looking for a parking for a good 30minutes I finally found one.   I went to Sunshine city, a 60story building that has a shoppingcenter, foodmarket, hotel, aquarium, pig café, appartments, sky garden and the top floor also function...

Internship week 4

Hi again  I'm sorry for the delay but here I am with another weekly blog.  This week was already week 4 of my internship, It's insane how fast the time is flying by!  We had a really busy but fun week, on monday we went down to grade 6 exhibition. They had been working on presentations and we were the audience. I also brought the speculoospasta that I had taken with me from Belgium and the team demolished it during the meeting. They made 'diabetis sandwiches' by adding some speculoospasta on to a cookie and then putting chocolate on top. Half of that jar is already gone, and I'm sure it will be empty in no time. After school, Joy and I tried to get a haircut but the salon was fully booked already. So we made an appointment for a different day and just went to get dessert instead.  Thursday was another important day since we had our own exhibition that day. After school the parents came over and the kids were able to show their parents what they have been workin...

10/03 Yokohama chinatown

On sunday I had a bit of a lazy start. I woke up around 7:30 but descided to go back to sleep for a little longer. I woke back up at 13:30 haha, guess I needed the sleep. I had lunch in my room, relaxed a bit and did some chores. I wanted to go to chinatown today so I didn't want to go too early anyway since I figured it would look nicer when it was already dark outside.  I headed to the non-chinatown part of Yokohama first, these are streets filled with small boutiques and stores. I found a store that had food from all over the world and bought some 'Jules Destrooper' cookies to give to Joy at the end of my internship. I brought chocolates but most of them got a little damaged during the trip and I didn't want to give her a broken box of something. I also got some côté d'or chocolate for myself. 😋They have chocolate and chocolate-flavoured things here in Japan but they honestly suck! Everytime I have gotten something chocolate flavoured it's been a dissapoint...

09/03 Ueno part 2

On saturday I started my day by heading back to the school. I left my laptop on friday and really needed it this weekend so I went back to get it. Unfortunately everything was closed and I couldn't get in. So no laptop this weekend. I made some lunch at home and chilled for a bit.  Around 3p.m. I headed to Ueno. I wanted to visit the zoo but it was closed for the day, so I just walked around the park for a bit and it was really nice! I started my walk at the temple, I already saw this but it was dark the last time so I wanted to see it while it was still light out.  After, I walked around a little more and the park was honestly soo beautifull! And I even saw some early blooming sakura! I sat down, had a coffee and headed for the streetfood area to get some food! I walked around and looked for some good food but it was soo cold and all of the streetfood stalls are outside. So I went to get sushi instead.  After heading home I fell right asleep, I was so tired! Talk t...
