This morning we woke up early, we had a private bike tour booked with Ted. His real name was a very difficult Japanese name so we could just call him Ted haha.
The bike tour was so nice, it really changed my view of Kyoto completely. Our hotel was quite a bit out of the city center and so I felt as though Kyoto was a bit dead, but during the bike tour I saw the complete opposite. We started with some very nice temples and Ted knew a great deal about them. Grandma had a hard time understanding him because he had a very special accent and he mumbled quite a bit so I had to listen extra careful and translate everything for her.
We then biked trough the Geisha district, I do not have any pictures of the Geisha because they really don't like it when tourists take pictures without permission but we did see 2 of them. It's sad that some of the districts now oficially had to forbid tourists because they kept invading the Geishas privacy and behaving really distrespectful.
The next thing Ted showed us was the beautifull area next to the river. This was such a lovely area to bike because it was so calm and sunny.
The last thing on the bike tour was the garden of the 'Imperial Palace'. We really enjoyed these gardens and saw loads of wild turtles. We then headed back to the bike tour shop and thanked our super nice guide for the tour.
After having some lunch, grandma wanted to rest for a bit. So I went for a big walk and explored the city some more. I really enjoyed this me-time and saw some really nice places in the city center.
I went to get grandma and we went back to one of the areas Ted took us this morning for dinner. We chose a really nice restaurant but it turned out to be very fancy and the portions were so small that we ended up going to a second restaurant and eating a second dinner haha. And we even paid less for the second dinner where we had plenty to eat then we did for the first one. As you see, fancy doesn't always mean good ๐
