This week will be the last week of my internship. It breaks my heart to think about it so I wanted to enjoy this week as much as possible. And I sure did exactly that! We were still doing the badges unit this week and it was so much fun! During the week the kids started building shapes in math and they got some really challenging ones done to earn the badges!
For UOI we had kerbal space program, a game where you have to build your own rocket and make it fly. It takes a whole lot of skills to build the perfect rocket and even more to make sure it doesn't crash. The kids were so motivated to make it work and they loved playing a videogame in class. And ofcourse we loved it too because they were motivated to learn an work! I try to make my own rocket and make it fly but lets say I still have some learning to do...maybe one day when I use it in my own classroom I might figure it out? π
The other option for UOI badges was making actual rockets, we started with learning how to aim and fire balloons the right way and then used plastic bottles. We filled them with a certain % of water and then topped them with air to put pressure into the water. They fired so high! I think some of them went up like 30m or more and the kids had loads of fun!
On Tuesday, I had my tattoo appointment. Angie came along and I was happy she did haha. We did a little shopping first because we still had some time to kill. When we arrived at the studio they had designed different options for me and I had to pick one, We ended up mixing 2 of the designs togheter and I loved it. We chose the placement and he got to work. At first it didn't hurt at all, I was relaxing and texting Joy and Angie while laying there with my head against the wall. But when he got to the area closer to my bone it started to hurt pretty bad, I asked Angie to check if he was almost done and she was like 'I cant, the door is closed haha you can see that right' and I responded 'no, I'm laying with my head facing the wall and can't see anything'. It was so funny because we were having a really funny conversation in the groupchat and I couldn't laugh because then I would shake my leg π
When he was done after about 20min he showed me the result. And it's exactly what I wanted!
I wanted something to remind me of my time here, this is a once in a lifetime experience and I wanted something that would capture that experience in 1 tattoo. The tattoo is in Japanese Kanji and it translates to 'Happiness'. And I feel like that truly describes my 3 months here, happy. I fell in love with everything here; the country, the culture, the people surrounding me, the version of myself I was here. Ofcourse I miss the people at home so much, but if I could bring everyone I care about with me to a country of choice...The choice of where I want to live would be made in a heartbeat.
After getting the tattoo Angie and I went out to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. We had some very good food and talked so much.
Friday was a very emotional day. Joy started crying because she will miss me out of nowhere twice and I felt so bad for her. The kids and teachers made a video for me and when I saw it I cried too. ππ They got me flowers and gifts and I felt so loved and appreciated.
After school we headed to Joy's house with the grade 5 team to have dinner. Joy made Thai curry, Jay made cocktails and I got dessert. We had a really nice time and I enjoyed it a lot!
I headed to my dorm, put my flowers in a plastic bottle, read all the cards I got and cried some more, and had a relaxed night.

Until you spread your wings, you have no idea how far you can fly. πͺ½ So proud of you for doing this and nailing it.
